My day with the Lotus Eaters (come on im sure you guys read homer?) (If your wondering what that sound is its my ego getting bigger)

Greetings true believers (Okay I read comics, the secret is out) (Now I don't have to go on top of a mountain with Jake Gyllenhaal to read them) The other day, I was over my friend Pete's house (I do have more friends than Pete I swear) and he told me a funny story about his friend who was at a party where everyone smoked pot, and pretty much passed out for the day. (Their is more to the story that makes it funny (like his friend passing out in a pond) but I'm skipping to get to the philosophical basis of it) This got me thinking, why do people love pot so much? (sudden image of a thousand pot heads commenting occurs inside my head) Is it the taboo of it, the high it gives, the cheap price? It also made me think of Homer's epic "The Odyssey" In his poem, Odysseus crew lands on an island and finds lotus plants, they pretty much lay around all day high off the plant. Now the men have been away from their wives and children for over ten years ( some may see it as a blessing) because they were fighting in the Trojan war, and they were sailing home (skipping major sections of the poem) and landed on an Island. Odyssey tries to rally his men, but all they do is lay around and enjoy the euphoria from the plant. Now if I wasn't home for ten years, I'm pretty sure I'd want to see my wife (for more than one reason (porn music playing in the background)). Now I'm not condemning pot use, or supporting it, I'm just amazed that people enjoy laying around high as a kite, when their is so many other things you could be doing (like watching Lord of the Rings). Odysseus could not rally all of his men, and I'm sure they are still trapped on the island listening to Grateful dead records, so its really your choice, do you want to be a lotus eater for the rest of time, or maybe put down the joint and go outside (or power up the DVD player and watch some trilogy) (God help you if you don't know what trilogy I mean)? Now if you want to smoke a joint every now and then, I'm not saying you are a lotus eater, all I'm saying is their is more than pot, so don't stay at home every Friday night smoking, get outside and fight some Cyclops and have some witch sex (references to the Odyssey).
